The film Public Enemies was directed by Michael Mann and was released in 2009, it starred actors like Johnny Depp and Marion Cotillard. The film trailer shows different shots of various scenes throughout the film in no particular order these shots included mainly action and romance. I think this was used to capture the audience's attention and keep them intrigued for both male and female audience watching. The sequence uses about one shot every second as there are no long takes to stop the audience from getting bored.
At the start there is soft percussion music playing in the background, this builds the atmosphere of tension. There is some dialogue which describes what is happening in the film at that point. The trailer also uses non diegetic sounds that are used were mainly gun shot and flashing camera bulbs. Sound bridges from a man helps to sell the film to the audience. This magnifies the suspense and currently makes it the focus point of the trailer at the start.
The edits which are used are simple like straight cuts and dissolves, as the trailer does jump around the plot of the film to keep the audience curious and looks professional and creative. It is effective to the audience as if the trailer was complicated like for example using too many different transitions it would look unprofessional and over the top.
I found that the trailers we watched included credits of the name of the director, producer, actors and production company, sometimes they show the awards the film may have acquired to promote the film even more. Also, when trailers are released for films it will include famous actors that will help promote the film as well as to sell it to the audience. Trailers also only get a couple of minutes to convince the audience and make the film memorable so that the audience go and watch the film.
