The Preliminary Task- Final Evaluation

The video below is our film extract.

There are many positive and negative aspects of this film extract as a preliminary task. I think that a good point of this film extract in terms of camera is that there is a variety of angles and shots that we have used that were stated in the specification. We used certain shots that were appropriate for the impression we wanted to create to the audience. For example we have used a shot/reverse for a conversation.

In terms of editing there are positives and negatives. As a group we have used many different edits and transitions, but this makes the extract look over the top when it is not necessary. After analysing it can be seen as using these edits as a starter to see what transitions gave what effects to the audience. This can help in the main task so we know what editing techniques to use in the future if we were to be looking for a particular atmosphere to give to the audience.

In terms of sound I think that as a group we could have incorporated more sound like music that was from a copyright free source to give a more mysterious atmosphere and professional touch to the extract. In the background there is a constant fuzzy noise that may distract the audience.

The mise en scene of the extract could have been improved, as the lighting in some shots was dark and caused dark shadows and in other shots the lighting was clear. In the end we did not have enough time to re film the shots but tried to edit the lighting to as best we could. I think that we could have used more props rather than just a briefcase.

For the main task I think it will be easier in terms of editing as I will know what edits will be best for which transitions this will be less time consuming. I think that there needs to be more dialogue and to make sure that it is clear and can be heard and is relevant to the scene. When adding music that is well known but for the benefit of the future task using their music we would need permission. To do this we could contact the necessary people to ask if this is possible that we could use their music. Therefore the audience can relate to the song and will want to find out who that particular artist is which would give them the profit.
